Summary of 23 things

I think this was a very good learning experience. While there were times I got frustrated, I also learned alot and enjoyed some of the exercieses. I hope to be able to continue with some of them so I won't lose the skills I acquired while doing the different exercises. I especially enjoyed learning to create a blog, exploring Flickr, YouTube and Overdrive, just to name a few. I also enjoyed setting up a Del.icio.us site. One exercise I think will be helpful for anyone who wishes to catalog books for their private library is, LibraryThing. I've already used it for myself. It is easy to use and the hit count was great. The key to this program for me was, to be able to feel more confident when using the computer and not be intimidated by it.

Overdrive

I went into Overdrive and created an account. I then selected two audiobooks and placed them into my book bag and then my bookshelf. I was able to listen to one of the audiobooks I selected. I think that learning to maneuver through the system was the biggest benefit of this exercise. I'm not sure that I'll use Overdrive for work, but I'll use it for personal pleasure. This type of exercise gives me more confidence in using the computer and realizing I can't mess things up if I pay attention to the details.

podcasts

I loaded two library podcast to my blog lines, one I decided was not what I thought it would be, so I am not interested in it. The other had some information about Google Scholar that would be helpful for someone who was searching for information when writing a paper. It is more for academic searching. I also tried the Yahoo site but I'm not sure how that will be of use for library searching. I'll have to dig deeper on that one.

YouTube

This was a fun exercise, and not as difficult as I thought it would be. I'm going to try some of the library sites next to see what is offered. I found one about the future of libraries I thought was interesting. Now you can view it also.

Web 2.0 awards list

I had a great time with this exercise. I went into Yahoo! answers and Etsy to see what was offered by these two sites. I'm wondering if Yahoo! answers will be able to help me locate difficult publishing information on books and music CDs. I'm going to give it a try next time I come up with a question about a place of publication or date. There were more sites I will try in the future, especially those under the heading of books. This time I went into Wal-mart $4.00 drug list, something we were talking about at lunch. I also went into Etsy and viewed some of the homemade quilts and jewelry.

Online productivity

It took awhile, but I was finally able to post this exercise to my blog. I think this will be a great way to update our standards for both cataloging and processing.
